Woolworths have announced a trial at Melbourne airport, where travellers can submit their grocery list via an app on their iOs or Android smartphone, and have their shopping ready for collection at the airport when they land.

Orders can be made up to seven days ahead and can then be collected in the terminal forecourt, using the same ‘click and collect’ process as other online collection points.

While the trial is confined to Melbourne at this point, Woolworths envisage that it will roll out to other airports if successful.

The brainchild of local artist John Murray and created with the support of the tourism association, the environmentally-friendly statue is made of scrap metal, including three Volkswagen bodies and a pair of satellite dishes, while the legs, neck and main structure were fashioned with the metal from the old Dubbo police station.

According to Roger Collins, president of the local tourism association:”Lightning Ridge has big skies, big personalities, big opals… and Stanley is our next big thing. He stands out strikingly within the landscape.”

An interactive TV show aired in Japan last night featured some of our best destinations, as visited by Japanese celebrities.

The four-part program will show the best of Sydney, Cairns, Uluru and the Gold Coast, followed by audiences voting for their favourite, in a project that tourism minister Gary Gray said is “designed to increase the impact of Tourism Australia’s marketing to Asia consumers.”

The program will promote Australian holiday experiences to the Japan tourism market, where arrivals figures to Australia are on the rise.

“Japan remains a very important market to Australian tourism – it is our 6th largest inbound market and worth $1.5 billion to our industry in 2012,” Mr Gray said.
