18 global tourism wholesalers descended on Papua New Guinea last week for the country’s annual travel industry event, Lukim, held at the Port Moresby Nature Park. And, with Lukim finished for another year, PNGTPA turns its attention to rolling out a new travel agent training platform to help educate frontline sellers on the destination. The PNG Specialist program is due to be released in the coming weeks.
Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority’s Australian and New Zealand representative Lauren Whicker, said the 2017 Lukim provided a rare opportunity for those involved in the tourism sector to come together face-to-face.
“PNG is a beautiful and diverse country, where tourism is just beginning to flourish and it was exciting to have the destination’s forward-thinking, passionate tourism operators all in one place to share their insights with interested global buyers who were all eager to learn about this fascinating country’s tourism product.”
Pre-famils gave wholesalers the chance to explore Madang, an attractive coastal town on the east coast of PNG’s main island; Goroka, where the lucky group attended the colourful Goroka Show, and beautiful Kavieng, situated in PNG’s New Ireland province.
Buyers were also able to conduct a site inspection at Port Moresby’s newest property, The Sanctuary Hotel and Spa, set to open in October this year. Located in one of the city’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, The Sanctuary is ten minutes’ drive from Jacksons International Airport and five minutes from the International Convention Centre, as well as Port Moresby’s Premier Mall.
Attending suppliers included: Air Niugini; Buin Inn; Buna Treks & Tours; Country Tours; DJ Garden Lodge; Driftwood Resort; East New Britain Tourism Authority; Gulf Province Tourism Office; Kokopo Beach Bungalow; Kumul Hotel Group; Lamana Hotel; Liamo Reef Resort; Nationwide Rent-a-Car; Paradise New Wewak; Hotel, Pepeta PNG; and PNG AIR.
