Santa Monica Tourism, together with partners United Airlines, Hotel Shangri-La and Shore Hotel, hosted a sumptuous lunch for the travel industry and media at The Guest House at Sydney’s Park Hyatt yesterday.
On a rainy and misty Sydney day, the video vision of glorious Santa Monica was the perfect antidote, and an opportunity for guests to virtually escape to this must-visit SoCal destination!
This is Los Angeles’ beach city – a charming seaside town with all of the culture, events and urban amenities of a bustling metropolis.
Vibrant, and blessed with a beautiful year-round climate, Santa Monica bursts with beachside energy and fun – from its 5.6km stretch of coastline, iconic Pier and extensive beach paths to over 400 restaurants and 40 hotels, eight diverse and distinct neighbourhoods and endless opportunities to shop, shop, shop.
This is the place where generations of artists and creative folk have set up home, and businesses, and the city reflects their influence at every turn – from a focus on wellness and wellbeing to the artistic legacy of over 120 galleries, public art installations, theatres and museums. An astonishing 43 percent of local residents work in creative businesses—believed to be the largest concentration in any American city.
A longtime hub for the entertainment industry (and a popular residence for actors, musicians, and athletes) the city has seen a recent wave of tech and Internet start-ups, so many, in fact, that Santa Monica has earned the nickname, “Silicon Beach.”
The city’s celebrity clientele has encouraged clothing and interior designers to set up shop in retail areas such as downtown (honoured as one of America’s best downtowns by Forbes), Santa Monica Place, Montana Avenue, and Main Street.
Santa Monica invites every visitor to surf, cycle, swim, paddleboard, work out, take a yoga class, create, shop, eat! eat! eat!, play, relax, engage and kick back – you can even go car-free with the Metro Expo Line, or just amble through the pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods soaking up the good vibes!
