42-year veteran of the Australian travel industry, Ed Smith, has sold Canada & Alaska Specialist Holidays to boutique wholesaler CIT Holidays. He has been retained by CIT as an advisor, as needed.
Canadian-born Smith began promoting Canada to Australian holidaymakers in the 1980s, initially touting the North American destination as an add-on to travel to the USA. After eight years in Australia with Trafalgar, he established the Canada & Alaska program at Adventure World, spent two years with Cunard, and then set up the North America division of talPacific Holidays, before starting Canada & Alaska Specialist Holidays in 2006.
Kate Newsom, Commercial Director for CIT said of the acquisition: “As niche specialists in holidays to Europe, in particular Italy and Switzerland, we already deal with a similar demographic to that of the Canada & Alaska team. We see this as both an expansion of our business and a diversification of what we already do, with Canada and Alaska – two of the hottest destinations for Australians travelling overseas.
“Our concept is to concentrate on FIT’s, with itinerary planning the key. The Canada & Alaska team will focus on enriching the holidays of Australians by offering itineraries that are personally designed around the needs and interests of the client, highlighting unique and off-the-beaten-track Canada and Alaska experiences.”
C&A Specialist Holidays have moved into the CIT Holidays offices at 309 George Street, Sydney. They can be contacted on 1300 794 959 or [email protected]
