Saturday night’s ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards saw Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort winning two categories – Best Deluxe Resort and Best Visitor Dining Experience for its restaurant Ivi – and Outrigger Fiji’s executive chef, and honorary president of the Fiji Chefs Association, Mr. Shailesh Naidu, named as the industry’s most outstanding Tourism Leader.
Ahura Resorts’ Malolo Island Resort and Likuliku Lagoon Resort were both winners, taking out the top award for Accommodation Quality and Luxury Accommodation, respectively.
Plantation Island’s resort manager Niven Maharaj took home the Emerging Tourism Leader Award, and Maqai Beach Eco Surf Resort were the winners of the Tourism Sustainability Award.
South Sea Cruises was awarded Best Tour & Transport Operator.
“It is little short of astonishing that in the year that Fiji was hit by the biggest cyclone ever to make landfall in the southern hemisphere, tourism numbers actually grew,” said the event’s chief guest Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, who not only applauded the industry for achieving a 2016 Fiji record arrival figure of 792,320 visitors, but also hinted that an announcement will be made soon of a Fiji Airways codeshare with a leading Indian airline.
