She’s done it again!
400 guests of Wendy Wu Tours’ travelled to Xian in China to attend an exclusive Chang’an Impression Tang Dynasty Welcoming Ceremony, courtesy of the China National Tourism Administration, and see Wendy Wu Tours acknowledged with the Special Contribution to the Year of Tourism for China and Australia award.
The Chang’an Impression Tang Dynasty Welcoming Ceremony is only held on very significant occasions, to welcome official dignitaries who, in previous years, have included former US President Bill Clinton. On this occasion, the prestigious ceremony celebrated the 2017 partnership of China and Australia, in an official “Year of Tourism”, recognising the important relationship between the two nations.
600 Australian visitors were the honourable guests of the Gala Dinner, hosted by the Shaanxi Province Government, and were treated to an extravaganza of music and dance at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Xian City Walls.
Accepting the Special Contribution to the Year of Tourism for China and Australia award at the event, Wendy Wu was overwhelmed by the huge show of respect and support, almost overpowering her acceptance speech.
Twenty three years ago, Wendy Wu was one of the trailblazers in opening up China – a “sleeping dragon” – to tourism, and over the years, the company has been the first to host tours to destinations including the Nine Villages Valley and the now famous, Zhangjiajie, as well as leading the first overland tour to Lhasa, accessed from China.
Today, China is well and truly on the map for Aussies; in fact in 2016, over 400,000 Australians travelled to China as a main destination, staying 8 million nights (Source: Tourism Australia).
