6 DEC: It’s not unusual for travel agencies to go bankrupt owing airlines money. But last week in the USA the reverse occurred.
A list of creditors shows American Airlines, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday, owes agencies some $50m, according to US trade magazine Travel Weekly.
They includes two of the biggest corporate agencies in the US - Carlson Wagonlit, which is owed $2.7m and an agency called BCD Travel, which is owed $2.7m.
AA owner AMR Corp has said that everyone will be paid.
