25 NOV: Canberra airport is continuing to lobby for a role as Sydney’s second airport.
A full-page ad in the Goulburn Post newspaper says a new $400m terminal, to be completed next year, should be linked to Sydney and Newcastle by high-speed rail.
"You might wonder whether we need a second Sydney airport site when Canberra and Newcastle could easily supplement Sydney’s aviation needs - along similar lines to how Gatwick, Stansted and Luton support London’s Heathrow Airport", the ad reads.
It says Canberra will remain curfew-free with no significant residential development under the flight paths and will be on good terms with the city it serves.
