China air crash probe uncovers widespread pilot fraud

7 SEP: Chinese aviation authorities have found widespread falsification of qualifications among airline pilots.

More than 200 pilots are involved, London’s Telegraph newspaper reported yesterday.

The paper says the fraud was uncovered by an investigation launched in the wake of last month’s air crash in Yichun, northeastern China, in which 42 people died.

Some of the fraudulent pilots worked for the parent company of the airline involved in the crash.

A number have been suspended until further notice.
