15 DEC: An aviation company which under-paid 33 pilots by a total $123,423 has been fined $96,000 following a prosecution by the Fair Work Ombudsman.
The Federal Magistrates Court in Perth imposed the penalty on National Jet Systems Pty Ltd, which operates a fleet of planes offering freight and passenger services across Australia.
Federal Magistrate Toni Lucev found the company, which is now called Cobham Aviation Services, breached workplace laws in 2006-2007 by failing to provide the pilots with wage increases they were entitled to under workplace agreements.
The biggest individual under-payment was $7337.
National Jet Systems rectified the under-payments after the Fair Work Ombudsman commenced legal proceedings.
