22 NOV: The European Union says it has relaxed its ban on Angola’s TAAG Airlines flying in European airspace, and that there have been significant improvements in air safety in Albania and Russia.
The EU’s latest blacklist imposes a partial operating ban on Jordan Aviation, a charter company that often works for the United Nations to transport peacekeepers.
The list of 281 airlines from 24 countries — mostly smaller carriers from Africa and Asia — banned from flying in European airspace was established in 2006 and is updated regularly.
But critics have pointed out that the majority of airlines listed on it no longer operate or are freight outfits that service mining operations and do not carry regular passengers.
