Marijuana-smoking pilot taken from cockpit

9 NOV: A pilot was removed from a passenger plane in Russia after checks showed he had been smoking marijuana.

The discovery was made minutes before the plane was due to take off on an eight-hour flight to Moscow from Magadan, in the far east of Siberia.

Officials disclosed that another member of the crew also tested positive for the drug.

Alexander Bulgakov, head of the regional civil aviation watchdog said: "During a pre-flight medical check, doctors were concerned by the health of the pilot in command and a flight attendant.

"They had a high pulse rate, high blood pressure and slow reactions.

"Tests revealed that they had smoked marijuana".

Yakutia Airlines has refused to comment on the incident, which has been revealed only after two weeks of detailed checks by authorities.
