15 AUG: Random blood alcohol tests found 57 Indian airline pilots legally drunk immediately before take-off.
The tests were conducted between January 2009 and November 2010.
Only 11 of the tipsy pilots were fired, according to information presented to the Indian parliament last week.
Some were suspended for three months and others were simply fined or given warning letters.
Reports say the disclosure will raise new questions over Indian air safety procedures and the disciplinary standards of its airlines.
The disclosure follows the recent scandal over the number of unqualified Indian pilots working on fake licences.
