Security breach causes delays at Brisbane airport

Qantas customers faced lengthy delays at Brisbane airport last night after a security breach forced evacuation of parts of the domestic terminal.

Travellers who’d cleared security were forced to evacuate the "sterile’’ area of the terminal and undergo re-screening.

A Qantas spokeswoman said most of the passengers had passed through airport security for the second time by about 7pm, but would not say what type of breach caused the delays, the Courier-Mail newspaper reports today.

"We are very sorry for the inconvenience to our customers but any security breach is extremely serious,’’ she said. "At all times we followed standard procedure, but at this stage we can’t comment on what the security breach was.’’

The Brisbane Airport Corporation refused to comment, the paper says.
