12 DEC: A cruise ship passenger has been jailed for life after murdering his wife during a 2009 sailing from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera.
Robert McGill, 55, a teacher from the San Fernando Valley north of LA, is reported to have told FBI investigators that he murdered Shirley McGill, 55, in their Carnival Elation cabin bathroom with his bare hands.
He claimed he had hallucinated after drinking half a bottle of Mexican tequila-like liquor and seven or eight beers and had no real memory of the incident.
