Queen will name new Cunard superliner in 11 October ceremony

2 SEP: Queen Elizabeth will name new Cunard liner Queen Elizabeth at a ceremony in Southampton on 11 October.

The monarch has a long association with ships of that name.

She launched Queen Elizabeth 2 in 1967, and as a 12-year-old was present at the launching of the original Queen Elizabeth in Scotland in 1938.

Cunard’s latest addition will visit Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle) in February on its inaugural world voyage.

The Sydney call will coincide with a Queen Mary 2 visit.
