$1400 gets you a night of luxury in Hobart

1 JULY: Hobart has joined the very high end of the accommodation market.

A luxury apartment which opened in the Tasmanian capital this week carries a rate of $1400 a night.

That’s abouyt double the rice for a room at Sydney’s Park Hyatt, which has some of the the highest rates in Australia.

The 40-square-metre Admirals Penthouse II is located above the Quest Waterfront Apartments at Sullivans Cove, with Derwent River and Salamanca Place views.

Its creators, Maria-Christina Lottenbach and Terry Cromer, told the Hobart Mercury newspaper yesterday that they believe there’s a demand for this type of accommodation in the city.

"Hobart is now a multicultural city attracting a wide range of visitors", Mr Cromer said.

The paper quotes Tourism Industry Council Tasmania ceo Daniel Hanna as saying that demand for luxury apartments is on the increase in the state.
