Hilton hotel sues over ‘Ground Zero’ construction noise

10 AUG: A New York hotel has filed a lawsuit over construction noise at the ‘Ground Zero’ site.

The Millennium Hilton hands guests free ear plugs on check-in to combat what it claims is incessant noise from the site of the 9/11 terrorist attack.

UIt has also installed 200 ‘white noise’ machines, designed to aid sleeping by creating more smoothing sounds, like wind in trees and waterfalls.

But many guests are relocating after only one night and the Hilton says it has lost hundreds of nights of business in just one month, the New York Post newspaper reports.

The hotel is suing the New York Port Authority, owner of the site, and the construction company engaged in building four office blocks to replace the former world trade centre towers - including a 106-storey skyscraper to be called One World Trade Centre.
