Diabetic’s insulin pump causes airport scare

31 JAN: A diabetic woman caused a scare at Los Angeles airport after security agents mistook her insulin pump for a weapon. The woman, who was not identified, was going through a security checkpoint on Friday morning when a body scanner detected the device on her waist.

Sources told the Los Angeles Times newspaper that the agents saw what looked to them like a gun, but she walked off before she could be searched.

Checkpoint staff called in airport police and the LA Police Department to investigate.

The woman was reportedly detained and questioned before authorities determined the device was not a threat.

The incident caused delays of about an hour for passengers boarding flights.

UPGRADE DELAY Air NZ says it’s new 'OneUp' bidding system for upgrades will now apply for travel from 12 July. It was to take effect 30 May.

AIRPORT SACKING A top executive at Berlin’s new airport has been fired after it was announced that the airport will now not open till March next year because of problems with fire safety system. "He had trouble recognising when things were going wrong", Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit told reporters yesterday. The airport was to open next month.
