19 JAN: The Costa Concordia grounding has given rise to colourful comparisons with the Titanic disaster. But Italian media has found a real link between the two events. A woman who escaped from Concordia on Friday night says her grandmother and her grandmother’s brother were aboard the Titanic, news agency AFP reports today.

Valentino Capuano says her grandmother, who was a passenger on the ill-fated liner, was saved.

But her brother Giovanni, who was working as a waiter, went down with the ship.
