10 MAY: There’s been another tourist boat sinking in Vietnam’s Halong Bay, but this time the occupants escaped drowning.
A vessel carrying 28 French tourists went down on Sunday afternoon after it collided with another boat, according to reports today.
One of the tourists, a 65-year-old woman, told media: "We felt there were some technical problems before the departure of the boat, which was in poor condition".
Twelve people, including an Australian, died in February when a tourist boat sank at its overnight moorings on Halong Bay.
Authorities promised a crackdown on safety in the wake of that tragedy, but Sunday’s incident suggests little has been done to date.
An investigation into the incident in under way.
