A little less bull in Barcelona

30 JULY: Politicians in Spain’s Catalonia region, which includes Barcelona, have voted to ban bullfighting.

The vote, which took place in response to a people’s petition containing 140,000 signatures, came just weeks after British actor and animal rights campaigner Ricky Gervais urged tourists to stay away from bullfights.

"It sickens me to know that people are still paying money to see an animal suffering in such a horrific way", he said.

Bullfighters are furious, calling the vote result "a dictatorship".
