6 JUN: There been a mixed reaction from airlines tlo the outbreak of the e. coli virus in Europe, according to weekend reports.
American Airlines, folr instance, has removed salads from inflight menus on trans-Atlantic routes, calling the move a proactive step.
Lufthansa has told mdia that it has "initiated preventive action to adjust its meal production in Germany", where the outbreak is said to be centred.
But Delta says it has no plans to stop offering salads on flights ex Europe, though it’s talking daily to its European caterers.
Princess Cruises issued a statement at the weekend that it’s working closely with US health authorities in monitoring the e.coli situation.
"Princess Cruises does not purchase any fresh food supplies from Germany", the line said.
"Our enhanced food sanitation procedures onboard requires that all fresh fruits and vegetables, irrespective of their origin, are washed then sanitized before being served".
Princess is not serving raw fruit and vegetables on ship-sponsored shore excursions in Germany.
Reports say other cruise lines are also monitoring the situation carefully.
