3 MAY: Australia’s national terrorism threat level remains at medium in the wake of the killing of Osama bin Laden, Attorney-General Robert McClelland said late yesterday.
"This is a very significant development for global counter-terrorism efforts," he said in a statement.
"While significant, Australian security and intelligence agencies have advised it does not change the threat level in Australia."
Mr McClelland said the medium threat level meant a terrorist attack could occur.
"Australia has been the target of attacks abroad and attack planning in Australia has been thwarted by intelligence and law enforcement efforts.
"The Australian government and our security, intelligence and law enforcement agencies will continue to remain vigilant against terrorist threats."
