5 MAY: The 22 February Christchurch earthquake led to a big drop in the flow of travel to NZ from Australia, NZ tourism officials said yesterday.
Some 12,000 fewer Australians crossed the Tasman in March.
Traffic from Britain, Korea and Japan was also down noticeably.
The earthquake led to an exodus of Christchurch residents, with 18,700 heading overseas on short-term trips in March - a 40% increase on March last year.
