Cracks in Christchurch airport terminal cause flight delays

7 SEP: There were flight delays at Christchurch airport this morning after cracks appeared in the domestic terminal building following further earthquake aftershocks.

The terminal was closed for a time, re-opening after engineers checked the building and decided it was safe.

Another series of aftershocks hit the Canterbury region overnight and Civil Defence authorities are warning that even bigger quakes are possible.

Local authorities in Christchurch are still advising people to defer non-essential travel to the NZ city, with the exception of the airport, which is now operating normally.

A state of emergency remains in place for the city.
