9 MAY: A tightening of aviation security in the wake of Osama bin Laden’s death has seen three Muslim leaders denied boarding on two US domestic flights.
Two imams trying to fly from Memphis, Tennessee to Charlotte, North Carolina were taken off a flight operated by Delta-affiliated carrier Atlantic South Airlines on Friday local time and ordered to undergo "additional screening" before being allowed on to the next available flight.
About the same time, an imam in New York was barred from boarding an American Airlines flight from La Guardia to Charlotte.
He was told to report to the airline the next day, when he was again refused boarding, according to his son.
The son said his father was simply told that the airline didn’t want him to fly.
A report doesn’t say if and when the man finally got off the ground.
All three imams were attending a conference in Charlotte on how to deal with anti-Islam attitudes in American society.
