Sydney-based tour operator H.I.S. Travel has been sold to big Japanese conglomerate H.I.S. Co. Ltd, effective today.
Jeff Hakim, head of the Australian operation, said the Japanese have been keen to buy the business for some time as part of a plan to take full ownership of the brand worldwide.
The company has 19 staff in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland and all have been offered jobs with the new owner.
Mr Hakim, who set up the H.I.S. venture under a Travel Japan by H.I.S. (TFHIS) banner three years ago, launched the New World Travel Group in 1987 and says another product will be unveiled shortly.
He was a founding member of the TravelManagers group, which House of Travel bought in 2007.
