8 SEP: The JetBlue Airways flight attendant who made a headline-grabbing departure from his plane - and his job - a month ago is now taking steps to avoid jail.
Steven Slater is to undergo mental health evaluation as part of a possible plea deal which could help him avoid a lengthy spell in prison if he’s found guilty on various charges, the Associated Press reports.
They include criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and trespassing.
He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
The case returns to court on 19 October.
