20 JUN: A man was arrested at Los Angeles airport at the weekend for allegedly attempting to carry a gun and ammunition on to an Alaska Airlines flight.
The 58-year-old was detained after security staff found a small handgun and bullets in his carry-on luggage during screening, the LA Times newspaper reported.
He was booked on suspicion of possessing a concealed weapon, with bail set at $US35,000.
Legally-owned handguns can be transported as checked luggage in the US, but they must be unloaded and properly stored, and the airline must be notified.
