9 SEP: A Russian passenger plane carrying 81 people has made what’s been described as a miracle crash landing at a deserted airstrip in Siberia.
The Tupolev jet, en route to Moscow from Russia’s Pacific region, experienced a power failure and was forced to glide down from its cruising altitude with no working navigation gear and at a high speed after its wing flaps failed, officials said.
The aircraft tore through 200 metres of forest brush before coming to rest on a disused runway overgrown with weeds, 1500km from its destination.
Passengers and crew were in shock, but unhurt.
