New video footage shows chaos when massive waves hit P&O liner off NZ

9 SEP: Remarkable closed-circuit TV footage recorded aboard P&O liner Pacific Sun when it was hit by massive waves off the coast of New Zealand in July 2008 has reached the Internet.

Media are carrying the video coverage on websites today, showing passengers and furniture being thrown back and forth inside the liner.

A woman is seen hitting her head on a pillar and collapsing.

More than 42 people among the 2043 passengers and crew were injured

A NZ passenger told the Taranaki Daily News at the time: "It was like being in a disaster movie."

"There were screams and people crying as they looked for their lost children."

Several Australians were among the injured.

One Australian passenger, Gavin Partridge, told Fairfax Media that he and his wife had been "rocked and rolled a bit" but were uninjured.

"The ship was never in danger and the crew were just fantastic", he said.
