20 MAY: Online travel agency Orbitz has found itself in an awkward situation.
Gay activist groups in the US are demanding that it pull its advertising from the Fox TV network because of what the activists claim are repeated "smears and flat-out lies" about gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender individuals by Fox commentators.
Noting that Orbitz has made plenty of sales to the gay and lesbian community, the activists are asking the agency not to support the network with its ad dollars.
A previous campaign by political activists is said to have led to a big drop in advertiser support for outspoken Fox commentator Glenn Beck, who’s seen in Australia on Foxtel channels.
So far there’s been no reported response from Orbitz to the request.
