4 MAY: Canadian investigators have begun exhuming the remains of more than 100 huskies killed by a tour operator after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
The cull has been described as one of the most horrific cases of animal cruelty on record.
The dogs were among some 300 used to haul tourist sleds in the lead-up to the Games and during the event.
Visitors paid around $300 for three-hour rides through valleys surrounding Whistler ski resort
But operator Howling Dog Tours decided after the Games that 100 dogs were no longer needed, and they were either shot or had their throats slit.
The killings came to light a few months ago, when an employee who carried out the cull was given compensation for post-traumatic stress disroder.
But exhumation has had to wait for the summer thaw.
Investigators will be seeking evidence to determine whether criminal charges should be laid.
