Skiers come in from the cold as Utah resort unveils North America’s first heated chairlift

7 SEP: A ski resort in Utah is about to get North America’s first heated chairlift.

The new high-speed lift at the Canyons resort (part of the Park City skifields) will have ‘bubble shields’ protecting skiers from the frigid conditions, and seating which heats up to about 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

"This is the future. The experience will be so different", Canyons md Mike Goar told the AP news agency.

The work represents some of the biggest development at Utah skifields since the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Operators are hoping to gain market share from Colorado, which currently attracts three times as many skiers.
