7 SEP: A freight train derailment in Alice Springs at the weekend has disrupted travel on The Ghan tourist train.
Cranes were used on Sunday to lift two engines and a carriage on the freight train back on to the tracks, but repairs to the line weren’t expected to be completed till yesterday afternoon.
Passengers on a southbound service of The Ghan were put up in hotels during the 24-hour delay.
They were expected to continue their journey to Adelaide late yesterday.
