The Ghan delayed 24 hours by Alice freight train derailment

7 SEP: A freight train derailment in Alice Springs at the weekend has disrupted travel on The Ghan tourist train.

Cranes were used on Sunday to lift two engines and a carriage on the freight train back on to the tracks, but repairs to the line weren’t expected to be completed till yesterday afternoon.

Passengers on a southbound service of The Ghan were put up in hotels during the 24-hour delay.

They were expected to continue their journey to Adelaide late yesterday.
