Travellers warned of increase in card and ATM fraud in Spain

28 JULY: Australian Foreign Affairs has reissued its Spain travel advisory, adding information about money and other valuables.

The advisory says credit card and ATM fraud, much of it involving sophisticated equipment, is on the rise in Spain.

Travellers are urged to use ATMs inside banks where possible.

The advisory notes also that Australia’s honorary consulate in Barcelona will be closed for the month of August. Travellers needing assistance should contact the Australian Embassy in Madrid.
