Blonde forgets £500,000 worth of jewellery when she checks out

12 JULY: A woman left £500,000 worth of jewellery behind when she checked out of a top London hotel last week.

A chambermaid at the Westbury Mayfair Hotel discovered the valuables when she was cleaning the room, which costs £2500 a night.

A hotel spokesman said it was four days before their owner phoned the hotel, in tears.

"She was very, very relieved" (that the jewellery was safe) the spokesman said.

The guest was identified only as an imposing blonde in her mid-30s, with an American accent.

She’d been staying at the Westbury during the Wimbledon tennis tournament.
