20 SEP: Two American tourists found carrying six human skulls in their luggage at Athens airport have escaped prosecution after claiming they bought them from a souvenir shop on the Greek island of Mykonos.
The remains were detected by an airport scanner.
The Californians, aged 25 and 29, were charged with dishonouring the dead.
But they said they’d bought the skulls in good faith at a cost of about $35 each from a boutique and planned to use them for Halloween parties.
Greek police are now trying to determine the origins of the skulls.
