Woman bumped to make way for fat 14-year-old

27 JULY: America’s Southwest Airlines says it will apologise to a woman it kicked off a flight to make room for an overweight passenger reportedly just 14 years old.

The woman, who doesn’t want to be named, claims she paid full fare for the last seat on a flight from Las Vegas to Sacramento, only to be told as she sat down that she had to leave.

"It didn’t seem right that I should have to leave to accommodate someone who had paid for only one seat", she told the Sacramento Bee newspaper.

She claimed staff even berated her when she asked why she had to get off.

A Southwest staffer told the paper: "We know this was awkward and we should have handled it better".

The woman took the next flight.
