As the Delta variant continues its transmission across locked down NSW, Canberra yesterday reported 19 new cases in the ACT and an extension of the current 7-day lockdown for a further two weeks until 3 September 2021.
In Victoria, Premier Daniel Andrews has also extended the current lockdown for a further two weeks (to 2 September 2021), added harsher restrictions and introduced a nightly curfew for residents of Melbourne. Effective immediately, the curfew is imposed from 9pm to 5am each day and, from 11:59pm tonight, people who need to leave home for work will have to carry a permit.
Exercise is now limited to just one other person, except if children are too young to be left at home alone. Playgrounds, skateparks and basketball and tennis courts will be closed. Only 25% of the workforce will be permitted on large construction sites and a maximum of five people on small worksites. People are prohibited from removing face masks to drink alcohol in public.
In the Northern Territory, Darwin and Katherine entered a snap 3-day lockdown yesterday after a man in his 30s, who had arrived from overseas and completed 14-day hotel quarantine in Sydney, flew to Darwin via Canberra airport on 12 August and subsequently tested positive in Darwin on Sunday 15 August.
He had been infectious in the Darwin community and also drove to Katherine.
