A number of airlines are recognising that traveller’s frequent flyer status and membership will be affected by the COVID-19 restrictions and offering to preserve points and status levels.
Velocity Frequent Flyer is providing members with a 12-month extension of their current status tier, in addition to their Status Credit gift. This means that all Silver, Gold and Platinum Velocity members will receive the 210 Status Credits for Platinum members, 105 for Gold members, 60 for Silver members; and a 12 month extension to their current status, meaning that there are no minimum flight sectors required for members to maintain their current tier for the next year.
“We know these times are tough, and it’s particularly hard where travel is concerned. In this changing environment, the safety and needs of our members and guests are key and we are really pleased to be able to offer this 12-month Status extension in addition to the Status Credit gift. We hope it gives them some peace of mind,” the airline’s program stated.
Qantas announced it will allow Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers to retain their status through to 2022, even if they don’t fly, through a one-off ‘coronavirus status extension’ program.
While the coronavirus has clipped the wings of most business travellers, Qantas says their status “will automatically be extended for 12 months.” Qantas Frequent Flyers with a membership year anniversary date between March 2020 and February 2021 will automatically retain their current status for the subsequent 12 months.
