Sujata Raman, Abercrombie & Kent Australia’s regional managing director Australasia Asia Pacific, is leaving the company after over 30 years to pursue other interests. Graham Wood has taken over the role on an interim basis.
Originally from Ireland, Graham grew up in a number of countries across Africa and started his first job with A&K as Operations Manager in Zanzibar in 1999. He then spent sixteen years with the company, including time as managing director of both Tanzania and Hong Kong and, after relocating to Australia in 2015, Graham operated his own luxury travel agency whilst also spending three years managing the inbound operations of Overseas Adventure Travel in North Asia, the South Pacific and Africa.
Sujata started her career at A&K in Egypt before moving to A&K Australia in 1990. She was appointed managing director in 2002 and, subsequently, regional managing director for Australasia, Hong Kong and China. Under Sujata’s management, A&K Australia is now recognised as the leading luxury travel business in Australia. DMC inbound and domestic business have grown significantly, and A&K has become one of the largest cruise-ship handlers in the region.
Highly respected within the travel industry and by all at A&K, Raman’s leadership encouraged innovation and diversity, constantly inspiring those she worked with to contribute ideas across all areas of the business and to seek new and inventive ways of delivering unforgettable travel experiences to its guests. She was also a strong advocate for the benefits that sustainable travel can have in the communities where A&K operates and was active in promoting the work of A&K Philanthropy around the globe protecting local culture and heritage, wildlife, wilderness and, importantly, livelihoods.
