As Australian travellers gear up for the European summer, a new report from PassportCard reveals a surprising trend: nearly one in four Aussies would insure their Labubu collectible before heading overseas.
Among Millennials and Gen Z, this figure climbs to almost one in three. The viral charm, which can fetch up to $1,000 on resale markets, has become a prized possession for many, prompting concerns about its safety while travelling.
The Europe Baggage Claim Report highlights that 63 per cent of Australians plan to travel to Europe within the next 12 months. However, 49 per cent remain unaware of theft hotspots across the continent. PassportCard’s claims data identifies Italy, France, and the United Kingdom as the riskiest countries for theft, with Italy accounting for nearly half of all reported incidents.
Despite the high value of items in their luggage—38 per cent of travellers carry belongings worth between $2,000 and $5,000—many Aussies are ill-prepared for potential theft. Alarmingly, 55 per cent admit they wouldn’t be able to spot a pickpocketer while on holiday. The top three items Australians would be most upset to lose are tech gadgets (88 per cent), sentimental items (64 per cent), and clothing (21 per cent).
PassportCard offers instant payouts for approved claims, including up to $500 for stolen cash and $250 for delayed luggage, aiming to provide travellers with peace of mind.
