Bathurst is encouraging Aussies to skip the crowded coastline and embrace a country-style summer, launching its new ‘Summer Done Differently’ campaign just two and a half hours west of the city.
The initiative highlights open spaces, fresh air, heritage villages and a growing range of seasonal experiences ideal for couples and families.
Luxury farm stays and immersive country experiences
Wilga Station has added new farm and culinary experiences to its luxury accommodation offerings, set on a 260-acre working sheep farm. Guests can stay in the Farmers Hut for two or the Shearers Hall for groups of up to 10, with new features including a walled kitchen garden, farm tours and an outdoor bath and shower. A natural swimming pond adds a refreshing summer option. A stay three, pay two offer applies across December to February, with a complimentary Bathurst Grange Distillery gin hamper.
Farm-fresh summer produce
Visitors can enjoy classic summer cherry picking at farm gates across the region, with Hillview Cherry Orchard, Yarralee Orchard and George and Sue’s Cherry Farm among the options for freshly picked fruit.
Live music and family fun in Rockley
Matt Moran’s Rockley Pub is hosting Summer Beers & Beats on the last Saturday of each month through to March, with live music from 3–6 pm. Families can also take advantage of free kids’ workshops every Sunday from mid-December to early February.
Scenic drives, riverside picnics and historic villages

A drive along the Fish River leads to the recently reopened O’Connell Hotel, where travellers can settle in for a relaxed pub lunch under the shade of a giant elm tree. Nearby Flat Rock offers shallow swimming spots, bushland picnic areas and riverside camping.
Further along, the Bridle Track and the gold rush village of Hill End provide opportunities for heritage exploration, from museums to contemporary art spaces.
Stay trackside at Mount Panorama
Visitors can take a lap around the legendary Mount Panorama circuit before checking into Rydges Mount Panorama, which offers balcony views of the track, an outdoor pool and a popular summer atmosphere.
Cool escapes in museums and galleries
With more than 20 museums, galleries and historic homes, Bathurst also offers plenty of indoor escapes. Highlights include the Australian Fossil & Mineral Museum, home to an impressive T-Rex skeleton and more than 5,000 fossils and crystal specimens.
Bathurst Regional Council says the campaign aims to highlight both the region’s natural beauty and its rich character, from heritage villages to family-friendly attractions.
