The Council of Australian Tour Operators (CATO) has opened nominations to fill a vacancy on its committee following the resignation of long-serving director James O’Donnell, effective 31 July 2026.
O’Donnell is stepping down after five years with CATO, citing his recent departure from The Travel Corporation (TTC) and his belief that the role should be held by someone actively involved in Australia’s touring and wholesale sector.
Leadership transition follows ATIA integration
During his tenure, O’Donnell played a key role in CATO’s integration into the Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA), which was completed on 1 July 2026.
The CATO Committee, chaired by Sean Martin, provides strategic leadership for Australia’s touring and wholesale sector and works closely with the ATIA Board on advocacy, industry collaboration and member engagement.
Call for industry nominations
ATIA and the CATO Committee are inviting eligible members to nominate for the vacant position, with Martin encouraging experienced industry leaders to help shape the future direction of the sector.
Martin thanked O’Donnell for his contribution, acknowledging his role in guiding the organisation through a significant period of change while expressing hope he would return to an active industry role in the future.
