Choice Hotels adds second Ascend property in Japan

Choice Hotels International has opened HOTEL GEOMETIQ Osaka Umeda, its second Ascend Collection property in Japan, a 132-room boutique hotel located six minutes’ walk from JR Osaka Station and connected to the Whity Umeda underground shopping mall.

Design-led hotel adds Osaka inventory near key transit hub

The property features art deco-inspired geometric design, bespoke lighting and original artwork by Osaka artist Saeko Kubo. Guest touches include complimentary regional refreshments on arrival, premium green tea from Osaka merchant Ujien, and confectionery from long-established maker Baisendo. The hotel’s lounge changes lighting and music through the day, and self-guided city walk cards are available for guests wanting to explore the surrounding area independently.

The opening adds to the Ascend Collection’s global portfolio of more than 500 independent hotels, positioning the brand around individually designed, destination-specific stays rather than standardised branding, while still operating under the wider Choice Hotels network.

Opening timed to record Australian visitation to Japan

Kari Hunter, Choice Hotels Asia-Pac senior director of commercial and revenue management, said the opening responds to continued Australian demand for Japan, with visitor numbers surpassing one million in 2025 for the first time on record.

For agents selling Osaka accommodation, the hotel’s location near JR Osaka Station and direct underground mall access gives a convenient base for clients exploring the city’s entertainment, dining and retail precinct, adding boutique inventory to Choice Hotels’ broader Asia-Pacific portfolio of more than 360 hotels.
