Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302 from the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa to Nairobi in Kenya, crashed around six minutes after takeoff yesterday with eight crew and 149 passengers on board. There were no survivors.
The Boeing 737-8 MAX plane was carrying passengers from 33 countries including citizens from Ethiopia, Kenya, the USA, Canada, China, India, Russia, Italy, France, The Netherlands and UK. It is understood there were no Australian citizens on the flight.
At 8.44 am local time (4.44 pm AEDT) on Sunday 10 March 2019, the plane crashed near the town of Bishoftu, approximately 50km south-east of Addis Ababa.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed reported the news via Twitter, expressing his deep condolences.
The cause of the crash is the subject of investigation.
