Club Wyndham expands to Mission Beach with new resort acquisition

Club Wyndham South Pacific has added a new beachfront property to its growing Australian portfolio, following the acquisition of Castaways Resort & Spa in North Queensland.

The Mission Beach property, to be renamed Club Wyndham Mission Beach, will become the brand’s 67th resort and its 36th in Australia. Located between Cairns and Townsville, the tropical beachside town is known for its access to the Great Barrier Reef, Dunk Island and the UNESCO World Heritage Wet Tropics rainforest.

Drive-to escape for vacation club owners

Barry Robinson, President and Managing Director of International Operations for Travel + Leisure Co., said Mission Beach was an ideal destination for club members seeking nature, relaxation or road-trip adventures.

“Mission Beach is a tropical North Queensland gem lending itself both to the growing number of travellers who simply want to unplug and relax, and those who want to experience Australia’s incredible natural wonders for themselves,” Robinson said.

“It is also an ideal stopping point between Airlie Beach and Cairns for our club owners taking immersive road trips.”

The resort, which features 48 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments as well as loft-style rooms, includes two pools with ocean views, a restaurant and bar, and the Drift day spa. A staged refurbishment of the apartments and common areas is planned in the coming months, with the resort remaining operational during this period.

Club Wyndham Mission Beach will offer access to rainforest walks, mountain biking in Djiru National Park, rafting on the Tully River and skydiving over the coast. The acquisition comes as the local area undergoes a $19 million revitalisation project supported by all levels of government.

The transaction was brokered by ResortBrokers and reflects Travel + Leisure Co.’s continued confidence in North Queensland’s tourism growth. The group now manages 56 properties in Australia as part of its broader Asia Pacific footprint of nearly 100 resorts.
