Australian agents have a deep bench of new product to sell across Colorado this northern winter, with the state pairing sesquicentennial celebrations with major on-mountain upgrades, new stays, wellness openings and an expanded line-up of après and cultural experiences.
Colorado’s dual anniversary program
Colorado’s 150th year aligns with the United States’ 250th, with the statewide theme “The View From Here” anchoring a year of initiatives for visitors and communities. Expect a mobile digital passport, an expanded register of historic places, an oral-history project, and a headline exhibition at the History Colorado Center, alongside a rolling calendar of local celebrations and choreographed drone shows.
Trade can bundle heritage hotels, scenic rail journeys, dude and guest ranches, historic opera houses and hot springs circuits with four National Parks, nine National Monuments and three National Historic Areas.
Big winter on the slopes (2025–26)
New lifts, terrain and guest experiences await across the state’s twenty-eight ski areas:
- Monarch Mountain’s No Name expansion adds 377 acres (about 152 hectares) and 10 new runs spanning the Continental Divide.
- Winter Park’s Mary Jane turns fifty; the Winter Park Express Ski Train runs special services in December, then four days weekly from 8 January 2026.
- Keystone debuts Kindred Resort at River Run with ski-in/ski-out access, multiple dining venues, a kids club, spa and firepit terraces.
- Cuchara Mountain Park prepares to restart Lift 4 for the first time in twenty-five years.
- Purgatory invests more than US$6 million in snowmaking, a new fixed-grip triple, five new trails, a snowcat and glading ahead of its sixtieth.
- Snowmass replaces Elk Camp with a high-speed six-pack and adds the Cirque T-bar among the highest lifts in North America.
- Sunlight Mountain replaces two of its three lifts in its largest upgrade since 1966.
- Vail Mountain programs headline music, on-mountain pop-ups and après all season.
- Eagle County Airport joins United’s “7-Hub Club”, with direct services from Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco and Washington, streamlining connections for Australians via West Coast gateways.
Olympic energy on and off the mountain
Colorado offers an Olympic-flavoured build-up to Milano Cortina 2026. In Colorado Springs, year-round tours of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center pair with interactive galleries at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, which will add daily activations and Downtown Winter Fest on 7 February 2026. Steamboat launches Ski with an Olympian and Dinner with an Olympian, while race fans can target the Audi FIS Ski World Cup at Copper Mountain (27–30 November 2025) and Beaver Creek (4–7 December 2025). Breckenridge’s new Rockstar Energy Open (19–21 December 2025) blends elite snowboarding with music and art, and Aspen/Buttermilk hosts the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix (7–10 January 2026) before Aspen Snowmass stages the naming of the 2026 U.S. Olympic Ski & Snowboard Team.
New lodging and wellness openings

A wave of stays rounds out premium and family itineraries:
- Kindred Resort, Keystone (late 2025): 107 rooms, 95 residences, private club and three restaurants.
- White Elephant Aspen (February 2026): a design-driven addition in town.
- Gravity Haus Denver Hotel (opened autumn 2025): the brand’s first urban outpost.
- Limelight Boulder (opened August 2025): an all-electric, 250-room community hub with a viewpoint deck over the Flatirons.
- Hotel 1888, Glenwood Springs (opened summer 2025): 16-room boutique within the historic bathhouse at the world’s largest hot-springs pool.
- Honey Rock Landing Luxury Cave Suites, Dominguez Canyon (opened August 2025).
- Kosmos Stargazing Resort & Spa near Great Sand Dunes (first villas opened spring 2025; further telescope-equipped villas through 2026).
Wellness continues to surge: The Springs Resort in Pagosa Springs doubles rooms and adds 20 new soaking pools plus a geothermal spa and greenhouse; Old Town Hot Springs in Steamboat unveils four additional pools; Iron Mountain Hot Springs adds family-friendly activities now and expands to a new thermal circuit in 2026. Around Leadville, mobile and Scandinavian-style saunas and cold-plunge experiences bring alpine recovery to clients at 3,000 metres.
Off-slope and after-dark adventures
New soft- and hard-adventure options broaden the brief. Colorado Adventure Guides launches guided ice climbing at Chalk Creek Falls; Lake County expands Nordic, snowshoe and fat-bike grooming; and Idaho Springs’ Mighty Argo Cable Car rolls out from late 2025, eventually spanning 1.2 miles (about 1.9 kilometres) to a mountaintop precinct with trails, decks and dining, with 28-plus miles (45-plus kilometres) of hiking and biking coming online at Virginia Canyon Mountain Park. Night skiing at Keystone, Granby Ranch and Steamboat is joined by torchlit dining at Snowmass’ Ullr Nights, Tennessee Pass Cookhouse near Leadville, Crested Butte’s Magic Meadows Yurt, Telluride’s Alpino Vino and Arapahoe Basin’s Moonlight Dinner Series. Colorado now counts twelve International Dark Sky Parks and seven Dark Sky Communities, with Breckenridge the latest mountain town to earn the designation.
Culture, inclusion and community
New cultural drawcards include the “Moments That Made US” exhibition at History Colorado (22 November 2025 to 18 October 2026), a Rembrandt showcase at Denver Art Museum through 6 February 2027, the JAS Center opening in Aspen from December 2025, and the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of North America slated for early 2026 in Pueblo. Accessibility expands through the Colorado Tourism Office’s partnership with Wheel the World and adaptive programs at Winter Park, Crested Butte and Breckenridge. Indigenous language trail signage continues at Winter Park, while Estes Park’s First Peoples Festival runs 16–18 January 2026. Women-led clinics, inclusive festivals and LGBTQIA+ ski weeks add breadth, and the National Brotherhood of Snowsports Summit returns to Keystone from 8 February to 8 March 2026.
Après and culinary heat
Après evolves from mountain ice bars and DJ sets to urban concepts. Highlights include Arapahoe Basin’s new Ice Bar and Saturday DJs; Steamboat’s refreshed Crooked Antler; a restored boxcar bar in Leadville; and a flurry of Denver openings spanning whiskey lounges, French-inspired frites, Italian aperitivo and a rooftop Pan-Latin venue. The 2026 MICHELIN Guide Colorado adds the state’s first Two MICHELIN Star restaurant and three new One Star venues, with 50 recognised restaurants statewide and fresh Bib Gourmands, supported by James Beard-linked projects and New York Times acclaim.
Why it matters for the trade
For Australians, the combination of bigger terrain, marquee race dates, hot-spring circuits and design-led hotels supports longer, higher-value stays. Connection via United’s West Coast hubs into Eagle County simplifies access to Vail, Beaver Creek and nearby resorts, while the sheer spread of after-dark, cultural and wellness product helps agents tailor shoulder-evening experiences that keep spend in-destination.
